Synopsis

The aftermath of the Great War has left Berlin grappling with economic despair and nationalist upstarts. But within the seedy, risqué walls of the Kit Kat Klub, none of those things matter! This sleazy, avant-garde night club gives all who enter a rest from the world’s troubles with music, drink, and the most tantalizing burlesque dancers in Germany.

Seeking inspiration, American writer Clifford Bradshaw finds himself wandering in and is immediately hypnotized with both the club’s hedonistic lifestyle and their vivacious lead cabaret singer Sally Bowles. Meanwhile, Cliff’s boarding house proprietor Fräulein Schneider finds herself falling for Herr Schultz, a charming Jewish fruit vendor. The two couples spark intense romances that escalate in synch with rising political tensions.

Cabaret is a fierce, provocative musical that challenges the audience to consider what they would do in the face of fascism. Premiering on Broadway in 1966, it has since seen four Broadway revivals, collected eight Tony awards, and ran for over 4,500 performances. Prepare to be equal parts tantalized and terrified as Middleton Players concludes our summer 2026 season with a show that’s sure to make you feel Willkommen.
